How Transfer Factors May Restore Immune Functions
Both in health and disease, the life cycle of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is characterized by a continuous interplay with the host immune system. To survive successfully and establish latency in memory B cells of nearly the whole adult population worldwide, over 100 million years this virus has evolved different strategies to evade immune system recognition integrating itself into our very DNA.
The Epstein-Barr virus has evolved a plethora of strategies to evade immune system recognition and to establish latent infection in memory B cells, where the virus resides lifelong without any consequence in the majority of individuals.
The expression of viral antigens in malignant cells makes them suitable targets for immunotherapeutic approaches, which are mainly based on the ex vivo expansion of EBV-specific T cells. Indeed, the infusion of virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes has proved not only to be safe and effective, but also capable of restoring or inducing a protective anti-virus immunity, which is lacking, albeit to a different extent, in every EBV-driven malignancy.
Transfer factors re-train the immune system Transfer factors (TF) or leucocyte dialysates are low molecular weight dialysable products from immune cells that are able to transmit the ability to express delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) and cell mediated immunity (CMI) from sensitised donors to non-immune recipients .
CD4+ T cells have been and are still largely regarded as the orchestrators of immune responses, being able to differentiate into distinct T helper cell populations based on differentiation signals, transcription factor expression, cytokine secretion, and specific functions. Nonetheless, a growing body of evidence indicates that CD4+ T cells can also exert a direct effector activity, which depends on intrinsic cytotoxic properties acquired and carried out along with the evolution of several pathogenic infections.
Transfer factors (TXF) are low molecular weight products from immune cells that are able to transmit the ability to express delayed-type hypersensitivity and cell mediated immunity (CMI) from sensitised donors to nonimmune recipients, this is like a re-training of the immune system.
Additionally, Bacterial and most viral infections increase your Th1 system , meaning if EBV is active, you are likely to be Th1 dominant, and if you have certain genetic predisposition, it will increase it too much. People with a Th1 system out of control tend to release more cortisol than the average person because cortisol decreases Th1-related inflammation, so the body activates your HPA system every time you get a Th1 spike to keep things in balance.
Th1: Th1 cells are involved in what is called “cell-mediated” immunity, which usually deals with infections by viruses and certain bacteria. They are the body’s first line of defense against pathogens that get inside our cells. They tend to be pro-inflammatory and are involved in the development of organ-specific autoimmune disease.
Th2: Th2 cells are involved in what is called “humoral-mediated” immunity, which deals with bacteria, toxins, and allergens. They are responsible for stimulating the production of antibodies in response to extracellular pathogens (those found in blood or other body fluids). They tend not to be inflammatory and are involved in systemic autoimmune disease and other chronic conditions.
Once infected with EBV, CMI becomes the most influential intervention available to ultimately control and achieve resolution of chronic viral infections or with tumors to restore functional T-cell responses in the immune system through modulating:
1. CD8 T cells (CD8+ T-cells are an immune cell that inhibits viruses.)
2. CD4+ Th1 cells (CD4+ T cells)

Following an emotional event EBV can impair CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell recognition by a strong, albeit not complete, down-modulation of human leukocyte antigen (HLA). HLA controls the adaptive immune system and would normally present antigens and viruses to the CD4+ immune cells had it not been deregulated by the virus, this is where Transfer Factor in TXFACTOR comes in.
People with certain HLA antigens are more likely to develop certain autoimmune diseases, such as type I diabetes, ankylosing spondylitis, celiac disease, SLE (systemic lupus erythematosus), myasthenia gravis, inclusion body myositis, Sjögren syndrome, and narcolepsy. [Ref]
