Description

MELPROT™ is a valuable 30mg Melatonin protective antioxidant formula which may help with protecting from cellular degradation, free radical damage from oxidative stress when the body is subjected to chemical or radiotherapy bombardment .

Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the most used approaches for cancer management. However, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy-induced adverse effects including oral mucositis, gastrointestinal toxicity, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, hematopoietic system injury, cardiotoxicity, and neurotoxicity, hinder the clinical uses. Subsequently, these harmful effects often reduce the quality of life in cancer patients, and may lead to therapy discontinuation (Shapiro, 2016; Turcotte et al., 2017). Therefore, it is important to develop effective management strategies against chemotherapy and radiotherapy-induced side effects.

The following drawing shows the negative effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and the reduction of these effects using Silimarin, Chloragenic acid and Melatonin. It should be noted that, MELPROT™ may reduce the DNA damage which the chemo/radio therapy inflicts on cancer cells, however, it may also be seen as protecting / moderating the effects of chemo/radio as it can be these effects which can be most life-threatening.

SAYSOMETHING

Natural products including crude extracts, bioactive components-enriched fractions and pure compounds prepared from herbs as well as herbal formulas have been proved to prevent and treat cancer. Of significant interest, some natural products can reduce chemotherapy and radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis, gastrointestinal toxicity, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, hematopoietic system injury, cardiotoxicity, and neurotoxicity.

Polyphenols may be a promising candidate for preventing ethanol-induced liver injury through regulating alcohol metabolic enzymes in a cyclic AMP-dependent manner, polyphenols play a crucial role in protection of liver against hepatitis due to its potential activity in reduction of early proinflammatory cytokines [tumor necrosis factor-a and interleukin (IL)-1ß], activation of anti-inflammatory IL-10, and inhibition lipopolysaccharide-induced activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-?B) in hepatocytes.[8] Polyphenols are composed of two formulas; phenolic acids and flavonoids, and account for 60% and 30%, respectively, of dietary polyphenols.[9]

Phenolic compounds (PhCs), which are ubiquitously found in plants, have a potent antioxidant activity mainly due to their ability in redox reactions, so they act as reducing agents, singlet oxygen quenchers, hydrogen donators, and chelating agents of metal ions.[10] Moreover, previous studies revealed that PhCs play an important role in the prevention of hepatotoxicity through increase in the level of reduced glutathione (GSH).[11]

Flavonoids are a group of polyphenolic compounds, different in chemical structure and characteristics, naturally founded in plants. More than 9,000 different flavonoid compounds were described in plants till now and they play major biological roles through affecting several developmental and important processes.

Flavonoids showed versatile health benefits such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiproliferative and anticancer activity, free radical scavenging activity, antihypertensive effects.[12] It has been reported that one of the flavonoid compounds; luteolin shows a hepatoprotective effect and antioxidant properties against methanol hepatotoxicity.[13]

It has been found that Natural dietary supplements containing some ingredients such as Ginseng extract, Chlorogenic Acid, Silimarin, Melatonin, Vitamin E tocotrienols, Curcumin & prebiotics promote the recovery from severe illness, and relieve chemotherapy and radiotherapy-induced side effects. Gut microbiota also plays the role in the modulation of drug action (Curro, 2018), possibly could evaluate the risk of severe gastrointestinal toxicity.

“  Recently, a randomized double blind placebo-controlled trial demonstrates that Red Ginseng decreases symptom of nausea, vomiting, dyspnea and fatigue, and its efficacy and safety can improve life quality in patients receiving six cycles of adjuvant taxane- and platinum-based chemotherapy after cytoreductive surgery” ~ University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing

Suggested Use:

1 capsule every 3 hours during the day and 3-4 caps before and after radiotherapy or chemotherapy treatments. MELPROT™ should be combined with Omega DHA Fish Oil, Zinc, Organic Coffee Drinks, and/or Coffee Bullets to increase Chloragenic Acid and Glutathione levels. Please check with your health practitioner.  Do not exceed the suggested use unless recommended by your physician.
Note: Some people report that taking melatonin at lower dosages can cause drowsiness the next day, however, high dosage Melatonin (60 – 300mg) tends not to cause such effects.

For adult use only. Not for use by children, teenagers, or women who are pregnant, may become pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not drive, operate machinery or consume alcohol or other sedatives while taking this supplement. If you are under medical supervision, or have an autoimmune disease, diabetes, a depressive disorder, a thyroid condition, epilepsy, leukemia, or a lymphoproliferative disorder, or are taking MAO inhibitor drugs or corticosteroids such as hydrocortisone or prednisone, consult your physician before taking this supplement.

Contraindications (Do not take melatonin in the following circumstances):

  • * With Autoimmune conditions such as arthritis and lupus
  • * If Taking an immunosuppressant
  • * If Pregnant
  • * Caution if you are taking a sedative, hypnotic (sleeping medications), blood pressure medications, seizure medications, diabetes medications

Despite melatonin’s antioxidant properties, it has demonstrated a tendency to stimulate inflammation in people with certain autoimmune disorders. A study published in the October 2007 issue of the “British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology” demonstrated that rheumatoid arthritis slightly worsened in study subjects who took melatonin [source] . Other autoimmune conditions which seem to benefit (slightly) are Crohns, IBD and Diabetes (see diagram below).

However, most autoimmune conditions are a result of leaky gut caused by grains, stress, heavy metals, bacteria and other toxins. Detoxing these and healing the gut is a more effective strategy. See our Heal Ur Gut™ range.

Oral administration of SIL alone significantly (P < 0.01) decreased levels of TNF-a in the liver of CCl4-induced rats. Treatment of the CCl4-intoxicated rats with SIL combined with CA and/or ME produced a marked decrease (P < 0.001) in TNF-a when compared with the CCl4 control rats. The combination of SIL and CA significantly (P < 0.05) alleviated serum TNF-a levels when compared with SIL alone. Treatment of the CCl4-intoxicated rats with SIL combined with either ME or ME and CA produced a more potent effect (P < 0.001) on liver TNF-a levels when compared with SIL alone.
